Recipe Organizer Tutorial

Thanks so much for keeping me through the kitchen week. It was a rather interesting week and I am glad that I made it!!! The votes were super close all week!

Take a ribbon and measure it to the length you like. Either put it over your pantry door or your cupboard door so You can see how you need it! Then fray check the ends.

Glue on a clip. I got this one from Ikea. You can get metal clips at the office store as well!

Then glue on seven clips to the opposite end of the ribbon. I got these off of hangers made to hang pants. I like them because they pinch together better than clothespins. But clothespins would work as well! I had mine open every other direction.

Then get two silk flowers. You want the flower to be extra full so take them apart. Pull of the back and then the petals of the flower you want underneath. Pull the center off the petals. You can discard the back and the center.

Take the flower you want in the front and pull of the back. Leave the rest together.

Layer the new petals on top of the original petals.

Snap the back of the flower back on.

Hot glue the flower onto the ribbon where the clip is.

Turn it over and there you have it your flower clip.

Paint four rectangles. I bought these in a package at the craft store just like this. Then when they are dry give them a light sanding for that weathered look.

Paint on your words. I made the back say Daily Recipes. And the front say A recipe a day keeps the fast food away. But you could do anything really...(sugar and spice makes everything nice, the kitchen is the center of our home, etc.)

With a permanent marker write each day of the week on a clip. I started with Monday, because that's the day I go grocery shopping, and so I have groceries for meals from Monday to Sunday!

On the back of the ribbon hot glue the daily recipes rectangle over the weekly clips.

Hot glue your saying rectangles in place on the front of the ribbon on top of the flower.

Now all you need to do is add your weeks worth of recipes!

On the front you can clip the current recipe while you are cooking, a note, or even your apron!

There you have it!

So You Think You're Crafty Week Quatro!

I've been patiently waiting all day to post this...so here you have it!!! My craft from this week was... If you voted for me Thanks a million!!! This week was another fun one!
RETRO means something different for everyone. The items you categorize as RETRO will depend on the era you grew up in. When I think RETRO I think orange, olive green, and brick red, bold prints, shag carpet, records, huge ear phones, one piece jumpsuits, macrame, etc...
I have combined several of the items I consider to be RETRO to create...
a RECORD PURSE.
Not only having a new purse, (which we all LOVE) and helping the environment, (by saving records from the landfill) you can be a conversation starter! Everyone will want to know where you got yours from. And of course they'll want one for themselves.
Up the sides I used a RETRO technique, macrame knots, to hold the records in place and add a pop of print. The fabric I chose combined the colors I consider to be RETRO (gold, brick red, olive green, and rust) and of course the print is Paisley.
I lined the inside of the purse with more brick red fabric. I included two small peek pockets for chap stick, gum, keys, and your cell phone. There is two large pockets for magazines or bills. And then the main pocket for your wallet, pens, and other purse contents. I finished off the strap with the same color and a big decorative macrame knot.
So poof that hair, stuff that purse full, and take the trolley into town...
You never know who you might run into or what might happen when you are carrying a RETRO RECORD PURSE!

Earthquake Victims

My heart is going out this morning to all the victims and the families that have witnessed the horrendous earthquake early this morning.

You can read about it here.

I will be praying all day that all the tsunami's rolling in will have no effect and will take no further lives of those in the US, Asia, Hawaiian Islands, and everywhere else they are headed to.

The next 24 hours is going to be a nightmare for them to say the least. I hope the World can pull together for them even more than they just did for Haiti. We are truly blessed in America to not have our fault lines devistangly active recently. Let's pray they stay calm. And let's pray for them who are living where they are.

Record Handle Purse

Alright! I have been waiting so patiently to post this. And now, because voting is officially over this week I can!!! I didn't want to giveaway which craft was mine! Now, you will probably know! I actually liked this one better than the one I submitted. But the one I submitted fit the theme retro better. So here is the purse I am currently sporting! I LOVE IT.

You will need two old 45's. To start out you will need to make the circle in the center larger. So you can use them as a handle.

Wear a mask please and do this in a well ventilated area! (I can't be responsible for any damage do to the release of fumes. I am not sure how safe it is or isn't) Trace a cup in the middle of the record, and then using a hand sander sand around and around until you have met the line.

It goes faster than you think, and it actually isn't that messy. It melts the record right off! Do this to both of the records. And then take the records and drill holes into the outside around half of the record. Do this to each record.

Now it's time to make the bag part. Download this free pattern from Fabric.Com and Hot Patterns. You will only use the front piece to the purse. That is it! So just print the pages needed for that. Cut it out twice on your printed fabric. Then fold the pleats as shown on the patterns with triangles and pin and iron into place on both pieces. Then lay this piece down onto the lining of the purse and cut two pieces of lining. I used the edge of a bed sheet for the lining. If you don't you will need to cut it one inch longer than the print and turn it under and sew so the edge is finished.

Take the print fabric and sew along the pleated edge to keep the pleats in place. Then right sides together sew them together around the outer edge.

Sew the lining together around the outside edge as well, with the fabric right sides together.

Then with the right sides of the lining and the print together sew around the top edge. DO NOT SEW where the pleated U is on each side.

Turn right sides out.

Fold the finished inside lining edge under and press. Sew along the edge of the printed fabric.

Drill holes in the inside of the record, on the same half that you did on the outside.

Line the record up so that the U of pleats in the fabric is covered. Then using thread for jeans sew the record into place using the holes that you previously drilled. I did a straight stitch on the outer edge and did x-stitches on the inside edge!

Do this two both sides of the purse.

And there you have it.

An awesome record purse!

It's easy to carry.

It looks incredible.

And it fits a ton of stuff!

If you use this tutorial to create your own I would LOVE to see it!!!

Oh and for those wondering. I bought my records off of etsy. Just search for supplies, then records. There were alot of them! Or if you want this one. Pick it up at my ETSY craft shop.

Wooden Little People Tutorial

I used to LOVE playing with my Fisher Price Little People. Unless you run into them at a yard sale you have to pay at least $6.00 per person these days. It's killer. So I decided to make some of my own. And my boys are LOVING them!!!

Grab yourself some wooden people from Michael's or from Laura's Craft online.

Then I painted the heads peach. And I painted the bodies different colors. Take a black and red permanent marker and give them faces.
Don't mind the holes in the heads. I was going to use them for a different project but changed my mind. If you want you can paint hair on yours. But I have to cover up these holes.
So I am using felt. Plus I love the look of the felt. So if you would like the pattern print this off:
I then take the bangs part and hot glue it on first.

Then glue down the front sides of the hair. The back will look like this.
Put hot glue in the center on the back and press it down.
There you have your own Little People Figure.
For the short hair you will glue the bottom around the doll first.

Then glue up the sides of the face.

And then fold the bangs over and glue down.

There you have it short girl hair.

For the Mohawk take the piece and glue the Mohawk part together.
Then place it on the head and glue it. For the men's do the same. They are easy to do so I didn't take any pictures. Just squish, glue, and fit the circles on.
And there you have it.

A crew of Little People.

And it's serious business to pick out your favorite.
But eventually you'll find it!
