A Field Trip To The Zoo

In the mid chaos of this week I was able to go on my son, Rylek's, field trip. It was a blast. Long. But fun nonetheless. We went to the Hogle Zoo. And I just happen to know one awesome zoo keeper up there. He's my cousin. So my little group got to feed the turtle, Kronk. They had a blast. And I have to say, it was incredible! Thanks Dorian, so much, you're the greatest!
And then he got out and showed us this huge Iguana. The kids even got to touch it!
And it's always fun when I get to spend one on one time with my little guys, because it's usually not realistic. Well, in my current limbo situation anyways... So thanks Rylek... for letting me tag along on your fun day!

Oh what it would be like to go on field trips again... the carefree life...

A Signature Quilt For A Precious Girl

I had the privilege of participating in an amazing thing. A blanket was made in Three days. Yes, three days. For a Precious little girl in my son, Rylek's school class. A note was sent home from the teacher asking who could sew. Three mom's admitted their skills... and we were told of the need. I was in tears. I new I had to help. A darling little girl in their class would soon go in to surgery at the local children's hospital. Where she would spend some time afterwords recovering. And her teacher wanted to send her off with a quilt of encouragement from the class. How incredible, right?

So I went to my stash pulled out my white fabric, (please tell me I'm not the only crazy one that has enough fabric stashed...because people did think it was weird...) cut out squares, ironed on freezer paper on the back, and the very next day sent them to my son's class with permanent markers. They came home that same day... See, us women are fast, when there is a need!!! One of the other darling mom's brought me the rest of the fabric for the quilt that she had and I cut and sewed the top squares to this point.
And then I dropped them back off to her house. (Talk about perfect way to quilt) She sewed them all together in rows and brought them back to me, the very next day. So that same day I put the back on and added the silk edge to the quilt. (Sorry I don't have a better picture... I have NO idea why it's blurry...)
The next morning another fabulous mom came over and we tied away. That same day, I ran it down to the school.

And today (Thursday the 22nd) we handed it off. It was so fun to be in the class when this darling girl and her mom came to pick it up!!! I wish her much success with her surgery and hope this quilt keeps her comfy and positive on her journey! The kids absolutely adore her and were so excited to show her their masterpieces on a blanket!

I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to work on this. It was amazing from the start to the finish!!! Totally something that was meant to be, and I thank Mrs. Cooley for giving me this chance to be included and help out such a precious girl and her family. I was also to meet to incredible mothers out there, who I wish I would have known back when we moved in in January. I would have had many of fun times out with her. I just know it!!!

Here is my little guy's block. It's cute as can be.
Again, I'm overwhelmed with this project, and how fast, and efficiently, and perfectly it was put together. The Lord's hands were definitely involved in the process. It was amazing.

Rapunzel's Skirt From Tangeled

Are you sick of costumes yet??? Well, October is almost here, and I'm almost done... so bare with me on a few more... This one I love... and I wish I had a little girl... But I don't so we won't dwell on that will we...

Grab yourself some purple fabric. Cut it to the length  you want the skirt. Yes, the exact length. Then cut it so it fits the waist measurement. Yes, the exact waist measurement. Then add some lace to the bottom.
Then grab some other purple fabric. Cut it to half the waist measurement and 4 inches shorter than the length of the other purple fabric piece.
Sew the sides to the other purple piece. It will be 4 inches shorter than the piece.
Then grab another purple piece. Cut it 5 inches by the half the waist measurement. Sew it to the shortened middle piece.
Now lets add some decor. Take purple scrap fabric and circle them in the center piece of the skirt.
Sew them in place.
Sew on an elastic waistband to the top. And there you have it. The skirt to your Rapunzel Costume.
Stay tuned for the Rapunzel Costume Shirt.

And hey, don't forget to let me know if you make one! I'd love to see it, or I'd love to hear what you think!!!

Up in Scrambles...

Sometimes life throws you an egg. And then it gets scrambled. Well. That's the story of my life lately. And I just laugh. Because, what else can I do?

Remember when my husband graduated from CRNA school? Yes, it's been about 4 weeks now. Well... my mom fell in love with this while she was down there:
And it's all we've heard about since. Like she's been so sick to her stomach over her that she won't eat and can't sleep. So my sisters and I finally just told her. We were leaving. That very night. To go pick her up. It really was a family emergency. My mom was going to lose it. But now we have her. Home in my mom's arms, and all is good with the World. Because when Mom is happy EVERYONE is happy.

So the 20 hour drive brought home a dog, and also allowed us to see these lovelies...
So... it was well worth it on our part!!! Sorry, Arizona friends, I would have LOVED to actually see you, but duty called... I had to get that dog home...

And while my life has been in scrambles I've done a lot of thinking, and I've had a lot of things line up, and I've had a lot of things fall apart. It's been perfect. And there will be some major changes around here, because there are going to be some major changes in my life the next few weeks!!! And I'm so excited to get them all unscrambled the next few months!

Just a little Spotlight on Brian Whitehead

And I'm super proud of this super talented guy, because he's my little brother. He's also a master when it comes to anything made with wood. Seriously.

My son came home with an invitation to a Harry Potter Birthday party. So I called my brother up, and two days later had this beauty in my hands. I had a really hard time actually gifting it. I really thought about keeping it for ourselves... But I didn't.
A hand carved, Harry Potter wand! Amazing isn't it. Check out all the details...
I've tried to convince him to open up a shop, but he's working on a business degree so he can really open up a shop of his own! And believe me, when he does I'll be shouting it from the roof tops! His stuff is incredible!!! "Thanks Brian for the best gift at the party!" Those were my son's exact words.

My Little Rylek:

I know you'll have no idea. But I used to climb the same big tree you do. I used to climb clear up to the top and give my mom a heart attack. I didn't think anything of it. I loved it up there. I didn't care if I ripped my clothes, had sap all over my hands, and scratches all over my legs. I loved it up there. It was quiet, and away, and a space all to myself. I loved how the top opened up and there were many branches I could sit on. It would be perfect for a tree house if you could actually get the supplies clear up there. But I wanted you to know. That I LOVE that I have caught you multiple times this summer, sneaking away up there, all by yourself, just like I used to do. You make me proud! And it's fun to see you enjoy the same things that I enjoyed when I was your age. I love you, Mom

You are such a special boy!!! I love you!!!

My Sunday Thought...The Blessings Of The Scriptures

This movie pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Words of God. I invite you all to watch.

I would also like to add that for all of you Bible readers and believers. That book is true. And I challenge you to contact a Mormon, (like me) and ask for a free copy of THE BOOK OF MORMON. And just like you read the Bible, study and read The Book Of Mormon. For it is a companion to the Bible. With both of these amazing books in your life, you will know the truth. I encourage you to read it, to pray, to study it... the feelings that will overcome you and the joys that will be brought into your life, will out number the earthly things tearing you down. You will have true joy, eternal joy. If you ask the Lord in prayer with out any prejudgments, he will answer your prayer he will. You will just need to listen.

If you would like a free book from me, please email me and I'll get one out to you, with my own testimony of it's truth tucked away inside.

The Best Ever Spider Man Costume

Remember this Batman Costume? Well, I also made a Superman Costume. SO why not a Spiderman Costume?
Well, I'll tell you a little something. I will NEVER make a spiderman costume again. It took forever to get all those web's in place. It's darling. But so not worth it. Because I don't have a little guy obsessed with SpiderMan.

Use the Batman tutorial to see how I made the pattern pieces. Then come back here. For the pants you will cut the top in blue, and the bottom in red. Sew the bottom of the pants to the top. Do this on all four pieces.
Then get your permanent fabric marker and draw your spider web lines. I marked ever inch in both directions. That way they came out even.
Then sew the crotch seam together.
And using the batman tutorial finish the pants by sewing up the sides and the inner seam. Then make the casing and slide the elastic in. Sew closed.
For the shirt you will need one piece in red.
Then cut the following pieces to fit on the front.
For the back the main piece will be blue. Then cut the following pieces to complete it.
 Pin them in place.
Then sew them in place. Take your permanent fabric marker and draw the web lines on the red fabric on the front of the shirt.
And on the top of the back. Sew the shoulder seams together.
The sleeves will be blue. Then cut this red piece to fit them. And draw the spiderweb lines on the red. Sew the red piece in place.
Sew the sleeves to the shirt front and back.
Then sew the sides together. This will complete the shirt. You can either sew a bottom belt of red, with spiderwebs on the shirt.
Or you can sew it to the top of the pants, before you sew the pants together.
Then cut out a pointed eye mask.
Add elastic to the sides.
And there you have it! A super comfy spiderman costume!

Let me know if you give it a try! Or if you don't want to draw all those lines, head on over to my shop, and pick up one of the only two you'll ever see me make!!!

The Best Ever SuperMan Costume

Remember this Batman Costume? Well, it was so awesome that I thought, hey, we might as well make a Superman one, right? Right.
Alright. I traced the same pieces I used to make this batman one. However, you will need to head on over to the batman one to see how I made the pieces in the first place. For Superman you will need two of these in blue. One for the front, and one for the back.
You will need four of the pants piece. However, make it an inch shorter than the batman ones.
Then you will need four of the sleeve pieces in blue. The entire sleeve is blue, so if you are using the batman patterns, lay the sleeve pieces together to make it full length.
Then the underwear. It needs to be red. You need four pieces.
And the bottom of the pant leg is red. You will need four. This time cut the sides two inches taller and then curve down in the middle one inch to make a curved v-shape at the top.
You will need one red cape. The bottom will not be curved it will be straight.
Then you will need to cut out the superman symbol. The back is solid and yellow. The front is red and looks like this.
Then for the belt piece. It is half the height of the batman one. So it is only 2 inches high.

Now let's start sewing. Take the bottom of the pant leg and lay it slightly over the top of the pant leg. Sew them together 1/4 inch away from the edge of the red. Repeat with all four of the leg pieces.
Then sew the crotch seam together. You will have two of these.
Then open them out and lay them right sides together. Sew down the sides of the pants and the inside of the pants.
Then fold over the top edge 1 1/2 inch. Sew it with a 1 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave a small opening.
Put your elastic in and then zig zag it shut.
Sew the casing shut, and crap. Realize you didn't sew the underwear part one. Crap. Awkwardly sew it on because you don't want to have to massively unpick.
Or you after you sew the bottom of the pant leg to the top you can sew the underwear on each piece before you sew them together. Now, that is genius. And a lot easier.

Now for the shirt. Take the yellow belt and sew it to the bottom of the shirt piece. Do this with both sides.
Then sew the Superman logo to the front of the shirt. Then you will finish the shirt the same way I did here in the batman tutorial. Sew the shoulders together. Then add the sleeves. Then Sew the sides together. Then add velcro to the cape. And you have yourself...

A super Comfy, super Cute Superman costume and pajama's!

Let me know if you give it a try! Or you of course can purchase one of mine here in my shop. Please note: I make mine a little long, because I like the bunched look at the bottom, especially over shoes.
